Chicago Cubs pre-season view

Published by johns_73 at 4:01 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

We are only to the middle of March and already Lou Pinella is calling his team out for not coming through in the clutch. Yes I know it’s spring training but I think that his doing this is a really good sign. He is letting them know he is holding them to a higher standard and there will be no coasting this year. Maybe it was the ease with which they won the regular season, but they just did not seem to have the passion for what they had accomplished and that carried over into the post season.

I think they made some interesting moves in the off season and they should be able to walk away with the division again this year. The big question is will the moves help in the post season where they have failed miserably. Losing Wood and Derosa will be a blip on the fans screen if Bradley and Gregg come through as the Cubs expect. Bradley can be a very good player but it has been well documented that he has trouble staying healthy. Gregg appears to have a lot on his fastball but he has been hit well in the past which is usually a sign that there isn’t much movement to it. We will see by the All Star break how good these moves were.

In my next post I will cover the pitching staff and where I think they should take it for opening day.
